The Treehouse

Not many restaurants inspire the mentality of a 6 year-old who has just devoured all of the sugar available in a sweet shop. However, The Treehouse Restaurant in Alnwick Gardens, Northumberland, certainly had this effect on the foodie in me.

There’s something fairly Alice In Wonderland about this place, leaving you genuinely gazing around in wonder. The very fact that you are dining in the treetops, in a place completely made of wood, from the roof and branch furniture right down to the menus, gives the feeling that you have fallen through the rabbit hole and have arrived at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. The warm, relaxed atmosphere of the fairy lights and crackling fire in the centre of the room give a unique and magical appearance to your natural surroundings.

The Treehouse prides itself on local sourcing of ingredients and their support for farmers, conveyed through the selection of specifically Northumbrian cheeses and home made chutney among other North Eastern specialities. This is parallel to the mission for high quality, evident in the fantastic food. Their menus are also seasonal, which gives an extra, tailored dimension to dining here.

Adding to the fairytale and nature themes, The Treehouse creates cocktails served in apothecary bottles inspired by the fables from Alnwick Garden’s Poison Garden. A collaboration with the Duchess of Northumberland, Duchess Jane Percy gave her name to the Delicious, Desirable, Dirty and Deadly Jane cocktails, injecting an element of fun into the garden setting.

Akin to a garden party with a touch of Fairy Godmother dust, The Treehouse is an unforgettable place for a leisurely food experience for everyone’s inner child.
