The Milk House

Aptly named, ‘The Garden of England’, Kent has some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK. It’s really no surprise that the rolling golden fields and oaky woodlands provide some of the best organic produce too. I couldn’t help but seize the opportunity to sample some of their home-grown goodness at the The Milk House village pub.

A favourite among locals, the green gardens surrounding The Milk House, coupled with mint and cream colour scheme give a natural feel to the restaurant. The willow trees and white picket fences also compliment the subdued pastel hues and authentic, sixteenth century, Tudor, wooden furniture of the interior decor – bringing a garden feel into the dining experience.

Their bitter beer-battered cod with skinny fries, minted pea purée, charred lemon and lemon-thyme tartare sauce, was my choice. The fish, farmed from sustainable waters, was cooked fantastically with golden, crispy batter. The minted peas complimented the fries perfectly, whilst the lemon-thyme tartare sauce provided a great contrasting flavour, giving a citrus tang.

On a sweeter note, the chilled dark chocolate parfait with raspberry mascarpone and toasted almonds, was the crowning glory of the meal. The dark chocolate was rich, whilst the the raspberry was sweet and sharp.

Their menu reflects a field to fork ethos, as they aim to source all of their ingredients from a 20-mile radius. The menu features seasonal choices such as soups and summer salads,  whilst also offering a ‘Classic Menu’, with dishes including their own recipe ‘TMH’ beefburger.
